Dream wedding for dedicated Elvis fan from Flint

THERE are two special men in Eleanor Tatler’s life – her soon to be husband and Elvis!

On Saturday she will head to the King’s Graceland home in Memphis, Tennessee, with partner Simon Hemmings and the pair will tie the knot on Tuesday, exactly one year after he proposed in the same location.

It is ‘a dream come true’ for Eleanor, who lives in Llys Alarch, Flint.

The 58-year-old told the Chronicle she has been a dedicated Elvis fan since she was a child.

She said: “I’ve always been mad about Elvis. I used to drive my mum and brothers bonkers playing the records over and over again. Mum would scream at me to turn it down. She went berserk when I got an Elvis tattoo when I was a bit older.

“I was off work for three weeks when he died because I was so upset. I wanted to go over there, but I was only a teenager, my mum wouldn’t have it!”

This will be Eleanor’s fourth visit to Graceland, where she got engaged a year ago on Simon’s 50th birthday after his plans for a surprise wedding didn’t go exactly to plan.

“We went to Las Vegas first,” she said. “I wanted to see the Graceland Wedding Chapel but what I didn’t know at the time was that Simon wanted to get married when we got there. When we arrived it was closed so his plans were dashed.

“A few days later we went to Graceland and he thought we might be able to just get married. He asked at the office – I still didn’t know what he was up to – but you can’t.

“We were walking around and we got to Elvis’s grave when he showed me the two wedding rings. I thought they were earrings at first and he looked at me like I’d lost the plot. I was on cloud nine when he said they were wedding rings. Then he told me everything he’d been up to. He couldn’t have done it better! I said yes and that we would come back to get married.”

On Tuesday the couple, who have been together for 18 years, will enjoy a ceremony at a chapel in the Graceland grounds before being picked up by pink Cadillac and whisked off for a meal and then to The Heartbreak Hotel where they will meet up with a few friends.

“I can’t think of anything better, this is my dream,” said Eleanor whose favourite Elvis song is The Wonder of You.

And the celebrations will continue when the newlyweds return home. They will have a wedding blessing at Mold Register Office followed by a party for family and friends at the Springfield Hotel in Pentre Halkyn – and of course Elvis will play a major part in that day as well.

“Our first dance will be to an Elvis song, we are having Elvis cupcakes, cardboard cut outs, balloons and even an impersonator,” added Eleanor. “But Simon won’t be dressing up as Elvis, I think that might be pushing it a bit!”
