Matthew Stevens avoided Crucible humiliation on Saturday morning as he fought back positively in his semi-final against Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Wales' last hope trailed 11-5 overnight, with O'Sullivan requiring just six further frames to reach his fourth Betfred.com World Championship final.
With eight frames scheduled in the morning, and nine possible in the evening, Stevens could have been beaten a session early.
However the Carmarthen man was the brightest riser of he and O'Sullivan, and not only did he guarantee they must return for the fourth session of the match, he played himself back into the match at 12-8 behind when they went to the mid-session interval.
O'Sullivan did not pot a ball until the session's opening two frames were lost. He came to the table for some potting practice at the end of the second, following breaks of 44 and 39 from Stevens, and it benefited him in the third as he fired in breaks of 50 and 68.
A 66 from Stevens steered the 34-year-old to the fourth frame of the day.
