Airbus UK Broughton: Wingmakers suffer heavy defeat at Farrar Road

Bangor City 5Airbus UK Broughton 1

AFTER a superb start to the season Airbus were brought back to earth with a bump by Nev Powell’s Citizens at Farrar Road.

Table-topping Bangor took the lead in the third minute after a speculative punt into the Airbus box saw keeper Kristian Rogers and defender Matty Woodward get tangled up, presenting Jamie Reed with a simple tap-in.

Rogers redeemed himself with a couple of incredible saves but in midfield the Wingmakers were losing the battle.

Just before the half-hour mark Bangor doubled their lead after Andy Moran sold Leon Clowes short with a pass, allowing Bangor to intercept and catch the defence cold, Reed finishing off the move once more.

Another route-one ball set up the third, as Alan Bull took one touch and curled the ball past Rogers.

Harrison made two changes at half-time, introducing loanee Nick Rushton and Matty Cook and on the hour Danny Desormeaux smashed in a shot that was parried into the path of Rushton to pull one back for Airbus.

But Reed killed the game off on 72 mins, finding space on the edge of the box to smash a half-volley into the top corner for his hat trick. Bull then found space 20 yards out, his left-foot shot registering as Bangor’s fifth.

Afterwards Harrison said: “We’re already almost a quarter of the way through the first part of the season and if we want to be top six we will have to get back to being sound defensively and cutting out the errors.

“Our philosophy won’t change, we like to play the right way and hopefully that will be good enough to help us achieve our goals for the season.”
