Airbus UK Broughton: Richie Dorman signs six-month deal with Finnish side

AIRBUS UK Broughton’s season may be over but Wingmakers midfielder Richie Dorman’s is just gathering pace after he agreed a six-month loan deal to play abroad.

Dorman, 22, from Hawarden, joined Finnish Division Two side IF Kraft Närpes after impressing the Scandinavian club during a trial in March.

The former Blackburn Rovers academy player, brother of Welsh international and Crystal Palace midfielder Andy Dorman, is no stranger to football on foreign shores, plying his trade with United States college side New Hampshire Phantoms in 2006.

Since joining Kraft in April, Dorman has been an ever-present.

“It’s very similar to the Welsh Premier League,” said Dorman.

“Finland is very different from home and the town is very small, but there is definitely an appetite for football here. They probably get more coming to watch the games than the Welsh Premier.

“Almost everyone here speaks some English so it has been quite easy for me to settle in.”

The move was arranged by a family friend, who is also a football agent.

“I was suspended earlier this season so I went over for a trial and they liked what they saw,” said Dorman. “I’m glad I came over as it opens up possibilities.

“If something comes up in Finland or elsewhere in Europe, I would give it consideration, but my plan is to return to Airbus.”

Dorman’s performances have impressed Kraft head coach Peter Sundlin.

“Richie is a very good player,” said Sundlin. “He has been working very hard on the pitch for us and has put in some great displays so far.”
