Airbus UK Broughton: Wingmakers maintain unbeaten record with third consecutive draw

Airbus UK Broughton 1Llanelli 1

UNBOWED and unbeaten, Airbus UK Broughton were nevertheless robbed of the opportunity to put their Rhys Griffiths hoodoo to bed.

The absence of the striker – who has bagged 22 goals in 13 games against the Wingmakers – allowed Craig Harrison’s side to focus on the task in hand and maintain their solid start to the campaign with a battling draw – their third in succession – against Llanelli.

Windy conditions made life difficult at the Airfield and the home side settled for retaining the majority of the possession in the early exchanges.

Ian Sheridan found himself space behind the Red’s back line but his effort drifted the wrong side of the post.

Airbus applied steady pressure but were stunned when the Reds took the lead on 25 minutes.

Antonio Corbisiero found the time to deliver a cross which was drilled into the net by Craig Moses from close range.

At half-time Llanelli had the lead and Airbus were left pondering the price of a single lapse in concentration.

Their shell-shock extended into the second half as the Reds found their feet and tried to extend their lead.

Player-coach Gareth Owen made way for new Airbus signing Josh Roberts.

The teenage debutant, signed from Blackpool, did not have an immediate impact as the Reds continued to attack Airbus, their confidence growing.

But soon it was the hosts turn to grab a goal from nothing as a corner was dropped by Reds keeper Ashley Morris to the feet of Ian Sheridan who gratefully accepted the gift, slotting the ball home.

Once more Airbus were in the ascendancy, Glenn Rule teeing up Roberts on the edge of the penalty area for a tame effort before a late rally from the Reds saw Chad Bond twice ask questions of Airbus keeper Niki-Lee Bulmer.

But in the end neither side had the killer blow required to take all the points.
