AIRBUS UK have been handed a Welsh Cup quarter-final home tie against Carmarthen Town after they edged past Afan Lido on penalties on Saturday.
The Wingmakers had almost done enough to book their place in the next round in normal time through goals from Mark and Gavin Cadwallader, but Lido equalised in the 91st minute to make it 2-2.
After no goals were scored in extra time, a penalty shoot-out was required which Airbus won 5-4.
Airbus director of football Andy Preece said: “It was a fantastic performance to get through to the next round, we should have wrapped it up in normal time really.
“It was a very difficult team to go up against and it’s a major achievement. We fully deserved to win on the game.”
The result maintains Preece’s 100% record since joining the club.
On the fifth round draw against the Old Gold, Preece added: “I think both teams will be pretty happy with that draw as we have both avoided the big teams.
“We wanted a home tie and we have every opportunity to progress and once you’re in the semi-final, it’s anybody’s game as to what can happen.”
The quarter-final ties are due to be played over the weekend of February 24-26.
