Welsh Premier League: Gap Connah’s Quay starlet Rhys Healey named league’s player of the month

THE rise of Gap Connah’s Quay starlet Rhys Healey continued this week when he was named the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League player of the month for November.

Healey, who turned 18 last Thursday, landed the award after scoring five goals in the month. He netted a consolation in a 6-1 defeat at Port Talbot Town before hitting a stunning hat-trick as Nomads bounced back with a 6-1 win of their own away to Llanelli.

The precocious striker then got the winner in a 2-1 triumph at home to top-six rivals Newtown.

Healey has continued his fine form in December. He bagged a brace on Saturday as Mark McGregor’s men came from two goals down to win 4-2 at home to Llanelli in the Welsh Cup.

Healey’s double took his tally for the term up to 13 in all competitions from just 10 starts.

Nomads player-manager McGregor believes his top scorer, who has already had trials with Stoke City, Manchester City and Leeds United, will play in the Football League.

Former Wrexham defender McGregor, who made more than 400 appearances in his League career, said: “Rhys has turned 18 now and he is becoming a man very quickly.

“He played very well again on Saturday and he could have had a hat-trick.

“He got the goal that we needed before half-time and then he went on to score a typical goalscorer’s goal, which really pleased me.”
