Cricket: Mold march on at top of Premier League as Hawarden Park collapse

A LACKLUSTRE display from Hawarden Park saw them succumb to a tame nine-wicket defeat to North Wales League Premier Division league leaders Mold.

Tom Ducker gave the home side a decent start after they lost the toss and Mold put them in to bat.

His 39 was one of few highlights in Park’s 113ao as his opening partner James Hurlin went for two runs and Michael Parton departed for nine.

Craig Wilson came in and seemed to steady the ship, scoring a solid 38, but once Ducker went it opened up a chasm down which Park’s batsmen plummeted as not a single man after Wilson scored more than four runs.

Usman Butt’s 5-31 and Russell Wiseman’s 3-4 had done for Park and after tea Mold’s tails were well and truly up.

James Griffiths and Wiseman set the tone as top batsman Griffiths posted an unbeaten 59 to anchor the innings as Wiseman struck 23 and Butt came in at three to finish things off with 27no as Mold ended on 116-1 to extend their lead at the top.

PONTBLYDDYN came close to a victorious run-chase at home to Brymbo but fell just 18 runs short of their target.

Having lost the toss and seen Bymbo choose to bat, Pont claimed the early wickets of Stewart Williams and number three David Broderick but Key innings from Joss Roberts (30), Jamie Griffiths (49) and Kris Salisbury (49) helped carry Brymbo to a challenging 204-6 by tea (Kevin Owen 2-27).

Pont had to get a good start in their reply and Phil Davies and Glenn Chambers gave it to them, kicking off with 32 and 47 respectively.

Angus Reckford added 33 as the fourth man but there was no back-up from the rest of the order and responsibility for chasing down the final runs was left to number 10 Matthew Edwards.

His 28 was a valiant effort but not enough as Brymbo finished Pont off.
