Cricket: Connah’s Quay blow Menai Bridge away as they target second spot

CONNAH’S Quay are piling the pressure on Mold in the North Wales League Premier Division after continuing their fine run of form at home to Menai Bridge.

Quay have been whittling away the gap between them and second-placed Mold for weeks and now they are primed to overtake them after seeing off their Anglesey-based visitors.

The travelling side chose to bat and had the measure of Quay’s bowlers, Gethin Roberts scoring 53 and Tahawar Khan 48no as Bridge struck 211.

It was a tall task but Quay embraced it and solid scored from all five batsmen to occupy the crease carried them to 212-3, Darren Jones top-scoring with 68, Dave Powell making 57, Mitchell Van Wyk 39 and 21 and 20 from Ryan Holloway and David Fox respectively.

PONTBLYDDYN won a mid-table encounter at home to St Asaph by 85 runs.

There was little riding on this match but Pont still saw performances from Glenn Chambers (44) and Angus Reckford (41) help them to 170ao.

After tea, all-rounder Chambers turned wicket-taker as Pont bared their teeth.

He bagged 4-31 to prevent St Asaph from gaining a foothold and offering a credible response.

Good tight bowling from Ben Mason, Kevin Owen and Richard Davies was also key as Pont ended Saint’s innings on 85ao.
