Cricket: President’s XI defeat Flintshire county side

A CONFIDENT second-wicket stand of 141 pushed the President’s XI toward a 53-run victory over Flintshire’s county side in their traditional season-ending clash at Northop Hall’s Smithy Lane.

Tom Ducker of Hawarden Park and David Lloyd of Brymbo built the partnership for the President’s side.

Ducker’s experience allowed him to find his way to 75 while at the other end young Wales star Lloyd pushed him all the way with 69.

Their spell was crucial for the President’s XI, as they went from 28-1 to 169-2.

Appointed skipper James Hurlin, a team-mate of Ducker’s at Hawarden Park added an unbeaten 54 to the total and Jordan Evans of Colwyn Bay supplied 21 as the President’s XI closed on 254.

For Flintshire, who have had a successful season after wrenching the North Wales Twenty20 Trophy from Denbighshire’s grasp, saw Connah’s Quay’s Robbie Bennett (2-41) and Hall’s Adam Hodgkins (2-48) claim the wickets.

After tea another Quay man, David Fox, led the charge as the county side attempted to reel in their opponents.

Fox made 87 but Flintshire’s chase was ultimately futile as the batting line-up didn’t fire as they can and the county side were dismissed for 201.

Prestatyn’s Joe Williams bagged 3-32 for the Presidents XI, Pontblyddyn’s Ben Mason claimed 2-29 and all-rounder Lloyd took 2-47.
