Cricket: Danny Nolan steps down as skipper of relegated Northop Hall

MICHAEL Barnes stood out as skipper Danny Nolan stood down when Northop Hall completed a Liverpool and District Competition Premier Division campaign that ended in relegation on Saturday.

Skipper Nolan, appointed permanently in 2008, has been absent for the last couple of games and has stepped down from the captaincy.

But teenage opener Barnes was around and he scored another impressive total to add to his burgeoning collection, smashing 81 against Bootle as Hall tried to go down fighting.

Acting skipper Gareth Williams, standing in for Nolan, chose to bat on winning the toss.

Hall dipped from 127-2 to 154-7 before being dismissed for 164, while Bootle’s reply was cut short by heavy rain after they had progressed to 20 without loss.

Rain eventually won through and prevented Hall from completing their final game in the top flight.

The focus has now switched to next season, and the campaign for promotion.

Hall have not been in the second tier of the competition since Nolan took them up in his maiden season as captain.
