Cricket: Northop Hall suffer home defeat to Alder in Ray Digman Cup

A DEFIANT half-century from new skipper Gareth Williams couldn’t prevent a 27-run defeat for Northop Hall in their first home match of the season in the Ray Digman Cup group stages against Alder.

Hall found themselves chasing 208-9 off 44 rain-reduced overs.

Will Higginson (3-48), James Hurlin (21-3) and Darren Peters (2-11) tried to rein in the visitors but to no avail.

After tea Hall were struggling on 54-4 before skipper Williams, batting with a bandaged finger injured while fielding, struck 50 before being caught spectacularly on the boundary edge.

Hall were bowled out for 181.
