Cymru Alliance: Stunning late strike secures derby win for Buckley Town

A STUNNING long-range strike from Colin Quirk gave Buckley Town a narrow 1-0 derby win over Flint Town United in the Cymru Alliance on Friday night.

Quirk netted with just 10 minutes remaining of an entertaining second half at The Globe, in which the hosts were denied four times by the woodwork.

Flint also had their chances to score and Paul Williams thought he’d earned his side a share of the spoils with an injury time goal, only for it to be disallowed due to an infringement by Stef Halewood.

Mold Alex suffered a disappointing 3-2 home defeat to Llanfairpwll, despite taking the lead twice.

Owain Roberts opened the scoring in the 11th minute, before Iwan Williams drew the visitors level from the penalty spot nine minutes later.

Roberts restored his side’s advantage with his second just after the half-hour mark.

But Williams struck again after 71 minutes to make it 2-2, before he completed his hat-trick with five minutes to go to secure all three points for the Anglesey side.

On Saturday, third-placed Flint will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host struggling Berriew (kick-off 2.30pm).

Buckley will expect to pick up another three points when they travel to bottom club Gresford Athletic (kick-off 2pm), who have only picked up one point all season.

Mold Alex travel Guilsfield, who currently lie fourth from bottom in the table.

On Wednesday, November 18 all three sides are in action again (kick-off 7.30pm).

Flint are at home to Bethesda Athletic, Buckley host Lex XI, and Mold Alex face a daunting trip to second placed Llandudno.
