Premier Cup/Clwyd Premier League: Brynford United secure second round Premier Cup spot but Connah’s Quay Town held in the league

BRYNFORD United booked their place in the second round of the Clwyd League Premier Cup thanks to a dominant 3-1 home win over Mochdre Sports on Saturday.

The hosts took a 22nd minute lead through Darren Wilde, and Roger Dakin doubled his side’s advantage from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark.

Brynford made it three through Andy Skates on 75 minutes, before Kyle Johnson grabbed an 89th minute consolation goal for the visitors.

In the Premier Division, Connah’s Quay Town missed the opportunity to go top after a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to bottom club Sychdyn.

Town had led the game twice thanks to a brace from the in-form James Gambino.

His first goal after 48 minutes was cancelled out by Dale Lovett just before the hour mark, but within two minutes he had restored his side’s advantage.

But the hosts were denied a win when Lovett completed a brace of his own from the spot with seven minutes remaining.

Shotton Steel failed to build on Anthony Quinn’s sixth minute goal, losing 4-2 at home to Rhuddlan Town.

Trailing 2-1, Owen Pierce equalised for the hosts on 52, but the visitors scored twice on 67 and 85 to secure the points.
