Clwyd League / round-up: Connah’s Quay Town apply for Welsh Alliance promotion

CONNAH’S Quay Town do not want their fairytale ride to end.

The fast-rising Dock Road outfit are one of only two Clwyd League Premier Division sides to have applied for promotion to next season’s Welsh Alliance, the other being Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

If Town do achieve their objective it will cap an incredible three years for the young team.

As Connah’s Quay Nomads Reserves, they won the Division Two title in 2008 before topping Division One a year later.

After reforming as an independent club in the summer, the Quay, led by the top-flight’s leading goalscorer James Gambino, have made a storming start to the season and currently top the Premier Division.

Every match involving Flintshire teams at the weekend fell victim to the big freeze.

Hawarden Rangers face a massive Welsh National League Premier Division clash at fellow strugglers Borras Park Albion on Saturday (2pm).

Halkyn United are away to Llanberis (2pm) in the Welsh Alliance, while Holywell Town host Pwllheli and Rhydymwyn head to Barmouth & Dyffryn United in the Barritt Cup second round (both 1.45pm).
