Football: Buckley Ladies opening victory over Airbus marred by red cards

BUCKLEY Town Ladies kicked off their North Wales Women’s League season with a 5-0 win at neighbours Airbus Ladies at The Airfield.

Boss Richard Millington had a depleted squad to choose from but gave debuts to two new recruits, Gen Trowler and Beccy Dew, available despite completing the 12 mile Hellrunner cross country event at Delamere Forest 24 hours earlier.

It didn’t take long for Buckley to open the scoring as debutant Kirstie Jones scored in the third minute.

It wasn’t until just before the break that Jones doubled Buckley’s lead, deftly chipping the keeper from 20 yards.

After the break Buckley remained in control, Lucy Mitchell scoring a brace before Jones completed her hat-trick.

The game ended on a sour note after a high challenge from Airbus right back Kate Lodge sparked a melee which ended in Mitchell and Airbus central defender Caroline Ratcliffe, who got physically involved, sent off.

Despite this Buckley saw the game out to secure three points.

NORTHOP HALL LADIES claimed a 2-1 win over Llandudno Junction.
