Football: Holywell Town maintain pressure at the top of the Welsh Alliance

PWLLHELI are doing all they can to keep ahead of Holywell Town in Division One of the Welsh Alliance.

The Wellmen kept up the pressure on Saturday as they claimed a 2-0 win over Llanrug United to hold on to second spot and dare Pwllheli to slip up.

Sam Jones and Wayne Edwards bagged two second-half goals to secure the points.

In Division Two, GREENFIELD earned a 3-1 win away at Nantlle Vale.

After falling behind in the first half, Greenfield hit back with efforts from Shaun Johnson, Graham Williams and Sam Watson.

It was not such a happy tale for Connah’s Quay Town.

They went down 4-0 at Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs thanks to a Terry Roberts hat-trick and a goal from Iwan Griffiths.

And things were even worse for Halkyn United as they slumped to a 6-1 loss at Llanberis.

Dave Jones, Ian Williams, Dafydd Evans, Chy Wyton, Gethin Wakeham and Llion Jones had ended the game as a contest when Tom Matthews scored a consolation goal for Halkyn from the penalty spot.

Greenfield, Connah’s Quay Town and Halkyn United all take part in the first round of the Welsh Trophy on Saturday.
