Football: Rhydymwyn suffer defeat at hands of Venture

RHYDYMWYN suffered only their third loss of the Welsh National League season in their first match of 2012 as they succumbed 3-2 at second-placed Venture.

The Premier Division leaders fell 2-0 down in the first half but Stuart Hayes restored parity for Rhyd with two goals, including a penalty.

But Rhyd then conceded their own spot-kick and Venture made them pay, scoring the winner.

Their game had barely started when MOLD ALEX found themselves on the back foot.

A second-minute goal from Llangollen Town stunned the hosts and before half-time they were 2-0 down.

But a comeback from Mold saw Shane Parry head home a before Jack Abraham fired a beautiful free kick to level the scores art 2-2.

Town had the chances to win the game soon afterwards, but they failed to make them count as it ended 2-2.

PENYFFORDD found themselves trailing early to Brickfield Rangers.

But Peny hit back and went on to clinch the game 3-2.

Their equaliser came via a Matty Holmes penalty after 10 minutes and Peny took the lead on 20 minutes through Richard Driffield.

Brickfield levelled before the break but in the second half Homes scored a second penalty to seal the win.

Andy Watkin, Gary McConnell and Chris Evans fired HAWARDEN RANGERS to a 3-2 win over Llay Welfare.
