Football: Mold Alex replace Rhydymwyn at the top of the Welsh National League Premier Division

MOLD Alex shot into top spot after Jack Frost did them a bit of a favour, forcing RHYDYMWYN’S game against FC Cefn to be postponed in the Premier Division of the Welsh National League.

The Alex still had to earn the points however and they did so by besting Chirk AAA in a nine-goal thriller.

Simon Hulse opened the scoring form the spot and Jack Abrahams and Luke Reece ensured they took a 3-1 lead into the break.

Chirk introduced Darren Hignett in the second half and he scored an heroic hat-trick, but the Alex had already stretched their lead with a second Hulse penalty and they hung on to claim victory and the number one spot.

HAWARDEN RANGERS have hit their stride of late and their latest victims were Coedpoeth United, who they beat 4-1.

Man-of-the-match Dean Hardstaff bagged himself a hat-trick while Gary McConnell polished the scoreline off for the victors.

In Division One CASTELL ALUN COLTS suffered a 9-1 thrashing by SALTNEY TOWN.

Jake Gibbons, who finished with five goals, scored a penalty to start and Marc Gunther (2), Chris Woodward, and Ricky Wright found the net for Saltney, James Gibney getting a consolation goal for Castell.

Lex XI managed to earn a 1-1 draw at NEW BRIGHTON for whom Paul Worral was on target.
