Football: Saltney Town keep up pressure as Mold Alex fire home six in Welsh National League

SALTNEY Town kept themselves in the Welsh National League Premier Division title hunt with a 3-0 win over bottom side Llay Welfare.

It was an important result for the Bordermen, who after 10 games are eight points off the top.

Fellow title chasers Mold Alex kept their noses in front of Saltney with a tremendous 6-0 thrashing of Brickfield Rangers.

Alex have struggled against Brickfield in recent seasons but they are currently bang in form and it showed as captain Anthony Mee backheeled the opener on 15 minutes.

John Taylor then continued his rich vein of form, tucking away Mold’s second on 23 minutes.

Before the break the Alex were 4-0 up thanks to a quickfire Adam Renshaw brace.

Renshaw completed his hat-trick in the second half with a superb 20-yard drive and with 10 minutes remaining Damien Ketley struck number six.

In Division One, two first half goals from Danny Hughes gave Castell Alun Colts a narrow 2-1 win over New Brighton.

Glynceiriog picked up a rare point, sharing four goals and the points with Argoed United after the sides drew 2-2.

Nick Jones and Rhys Owen found the net for Glynceiriog.

Mold Juniors were unable to demonstrate the same killer instinct as Mold Alex as they slumped to a massive 21-0 defeat.
