Future looks bright for improving Flintshire Freeze

FLINTSHIRE Freeze gave their supporters another glimpse into what is shaping up to be a bright future for the club with a stunning victory at Solihull Barons on Sunday night. The 3-0 win all but secured third spot in ENIHL North Two for Mike Martin’s young guns and proved that, while promotion is not achievable this season, they will be among the favourites to go up next time out.No sooner had the first puck dropped, the fourth-placed hosts were on the back foot.Rob Griffin took a huge hip check into the boards, but he showed determination to recover and play in Steve Elliott, who set-up Ric Hughes to break the deadlock with just 47 seconds on the clock.James Parsons, laid on by Gary Dixon and Chris Jones, doubled the advantage soon after before the top points-scorer notched his second five minutes before the end of the first period with a goal of the season contender.Following a breakout move, Parsons , assisted by Dixon and Martin Barta, let fly with a rocket of a shot from the blue line. With experienced captain Marc Lovell marshalling the backline expertly, the Freeze looked solid. And on the occasions that the Barons did break through, they could find no way past rookie netminder Phil Crosby, who was rewarded with the MVP award for keeping his side’s first shutout of the season.Freeze manager Nigel Ryland said: “Every member of the team played with a heart and spirit that was a real pleasure to watch and be a part of.“Both Mike and myself would like to sincerely thank the players and the loyal travelling fans that took part in what was an outstanding away result.”The Freeze are without a match this weekend.Read
