Angling – Bob Griffiths storms Deeside Individual League Match

BOB Griffiths was the emphatic winner of Connah’s Quay AC’s Deeside Individual League Match at Hampton Springs Fishery.

The Flint angler, drawn on peg 47 on Long Island pool, used meat and corn on the pole to weigh in with a super 52lb 6oz of carp worth up to 6lb. Dave Weale, of Leeswood, used a similar method on Meadow for second with a bag of carp for 24lb 6oz, with Dave Ward, of Connah’s Quay, third with carp, tench and crucians for 22lb 7oz using corn and pellet on the pole from peg 32 of Long Island.

The best trout of the week at Treetops Fishery in Llanfynydd was caught by John Stoneleigh. He used an olive nymph on the Badger Set pool to lure an amazing 12lb rainbow, while another Holywell fly angler, Scot Gordon, also enjoyed his trip to the fishery with a 6lb 4oz trout landed from Loch on a damsel fly nymph.

Mark Boulton, of Mold, won the Sunday open match at Leeswood fishery with 26lb 6oz of carp. Second went to Barry Davies with carp and barbel weighing 21lb 2oz caught on maggot, with Ben Toplass, of Leeswood, third with 17lb 7oz.

Tuesday’s match went the way of John Porter, of Buckley, with some good carp with a combined weight of 20lb 5oz using bread. Ward was second with 18lb of barbell and skimmers caught on maggot and Haydn Messham, of Connah’s Quay, third using a mixture of maggot and corn for 16lb 15oz of carp.
