FLINTSHIRE Junior League’s closed tournament was full of excitement and tension from the off.
The U11 boys singles final saw both players invest a huge amount of effort as Tomos Sudder (Mold) beat Jamie Noble (Flint) 21-17, 19-21, 21-20.
Cerys Brackenbury (Buckley) won the girls singles, beating Megan Bailey (Llanferres) 21-8, 21-4.
In the U13 singles Noble got his own back, beating Sudder 21-11, 21-14 before losing in the semi-final 7-21, 5-21 to Scott Oates (Deeside).
Dhruv Bansal (Mold) beat Martyn Smith-Aldous (Deeside) 21-19, 21-10 before losing in the semi 11-21, 6-21 to Andrew Oates (Deeside). The final produced some fine play; Scott’s greater strength was the difference and he won 21-17, 21-13.
In the doubles group competition Andrew Oates (Deeside) and Bansal fought tenaciously to win, beating S Oates and Smith-Aldous 21-15, 17-21, 21-17.
In the girls singles Tonicha Font (Mold) won a very close tussle with Erin Bailey (Llanferres) 21-17, 20-21, 21-17 but retired injured in the semi to Amy Jukes (Castell Alun) after losing the first game 8-21.
Emma Payton (Flint) just beat Megan Rowlands (Castell Alun) 21-15, 21-20 but then lost her semi to Bethan Sudder (Mold) 7-21, 7-21.
The final between Jukes and Sudder was very close but after a series of exhausting rallies Jukes won 21-18, 19-21, 21-14.
Jukes and Sudder won the doubles, comfortably beating Abi Wiseman (Mold) and Brackenbury 21-10, 21-10. In the mixed doubles S Oates and Sudder beat A Oates and Jukes 21-9.
In the U15 boys singles Denbigh player Matt Vacher’s superior experience and power was just too much for Bansal and won 21-13, 21-10.Vacher and Scott Oates (Deeside) won the doubles beating Wheeler and Dan Noble (Flint) 21-17, 21-15.
Jess Faulkner (Penyfordd) beat Deeside’s Beth McLellan 21-13, 21-9 in the girls singles final. Vacher and Faulkner then won the mixed doubles 21-13, 21-6 against Oates and McLellan.
There were fewer entries in the U17s but there was some fine play.
Vacher won the singles beating Dan Ellis (CQ) 21-12, 21-13.
They then teamed up to beat Wheeler and Noble 21-14, 21-16 in the doubles.
Deeside’s Danielle Oates was too steady and accurate for Isabelle Cain (CQ) in the girls singles winning 21-12, 21-6. The mixed was a very close battle. Vacher and Cain beat Ellis and Oates 21-19, 21-19.
