Running: Flintshire runners prepare for annual Shell Chester Round the Walls Race

THE annual Shell Chester Round the Walls Race returns on Boxing Day.

West Cheshire AC has once more organised the popular race which starts at the Roodee, attracting the race limit of 500 entrants.

Weather conditions will dictate whether the 4.5 mile course, incorporating two miles of the medieval city walls, will go ahead as planned around the original route for the first time since 2006.

No entries will be accepted on the day for the 38-year-old race but entries will be taken on the day for the one-mile fun run around Chester Racecourse at 10.15am.

Gary Blackwell and Dave Roderick are two of five entrants from Deeside AAC, while Steve Bellis, Dave Boothroyd, Paul Donoghue, Huw Lewis, Dawn Urquhart and Margaret Ludden line up for Buckley Runners.

Wrexham AC members in action will include Gary Richards, Peter Norman, and Emma Parry, while Wrecsam Tri Club runners making the trip to the Roodee include Chris Briffa, Ian Jones, and Gary Norgrove.

Other entrants will be competing for West Cheshire AC, Chester Tri Club, Wirral, City of Norwich AC, Abergele, Borrowdale, Colwyn Bay, Denbigh, Hallamshire, Kent, Leeds City, Hercules Wimbledon, Ipswich, Liverpool Harriers, Oswestry, Thames Valley Harriers and York.
