FOUR boxers from Deva Police Amateur Boxing Club in Saltney will compete in the latter stages of the Welsh Novice Championships in Cardiff on Saturday.
It is a reflection of the club’s impressive rise to prominence in Welsh boxing that they are beginning to consistently get their boxers to the later bouts in the Welsh National Championships year after year and they will be hoping their fighters can turn their opportunities into titles.
Dan Evans will face Llay ABC’s Aaron Canning in an all-North Wales final.
Deva’s Lloyd Smith is also in a final but it is still unclear whether his opponent will actually compete, which could result in him being presented with the Welsh novice title unchallenged.
Jamie Moss will also fight in a final against an as-yet-unnamed opponent and Louise Rigg will have to get through a semi-final this time, again against an unidentified opponent. He will then have to wait for the final to be made at a later date.
Connah’s Quay fighter Paul Economides is scheduled to fight again at Chester’s Northgate Arena on March 3 against Dai Davies.
Economides – nicknamed Spartan – is building quite a record having won three bouts in a row while boasting a 12-2 win record in 14 fights.
Last time he stepped into the ring he beat Gavin Reid at York Hall on points.
