Racing: Bangor-on-Dee to host bumper race meeting

RACING returns to Bangor-on-Dee tomorrow with a six races card.

There will be 114 horses involved over the jumps, with 14 of them under the stewardship of Cholmondeley trainer Donald McCain.

The second race of the evening at 6.30pm will feature Tornade D’Estruval, who was narrowly beaten at Bangor in March.

The 7pm race features Cool Baranca a mount that has won her last three starts at the North Wales course and is looking to make it four in a row.

There is a strong hand played by Welsh trainers Evan Williams, Tim Vaughan, Alison Thorpe and Rebecca Curtis while Cheltenham Gold Cup winning owner JP McManus looks to hold a strong hand in the 8pm race with Fishoutofwater and It’s Like That.

The first race of the evening – The Red Cross Week Novices’ Selling Hurdle – is sponsored by Mostyn Estates on the Red Cross’s behalf and it will be used to launch fundraising for Red Cross Week.

The final race on the card is The James Griffith Memorial Hunter Chase for amateur riders.

Griffith rode himself at Bangor-on-Dee many times on his well known grey gelding Eastern Destiny.

The Going is currently soft thanks to the wet weather that has hit North Wales in the last week.

The forecast for the meeting however is mostly dry.
