STUDENTS of Caerwys’ legendary former world champion kickboxer Russ Williams have sailed through their final grading of 2012.
The students train with Williams and his instructors Wil Killow, Rhys Owen and Kev Williams at his Thai kickboxing and mixed martial arts centres in the Square in Caerwys, at Deeside Leisure Centre and on Abbot Street in Wrexham Town Centre.
All the students, who were targeting various levels from white first bar all the way up to brown grade third bar, trained hard and earned their passage to the next level.
Mark Evans led the way by going for the brown grade, the highest award of the final assessment.
Williams is planning to match his students up against one another at an inter-club bill in the new year.
The fights will take place at his Wrexham gym with Coronation Street actor Ian Puleston Davies presenting the medals.
There will also be a major show at Liquid Nightclub sponsored by Cynergy Security and Penny Black Cafe Bar on March 24 featuring the best of Williams’ stable competing in Thai Kickboxing and MMA bouts.
Williams’ classes are open to anyone looking to improve their fitness, learn self defence or even those who fancy stepping into the ring themselves.
If you are interested contact him through his website www.RussBox.co.uk,by email at Russ@RussBox.co.uk or by phone or text on 07814 516102.
The most experienced fighter in Williams’ gym is 52-year-old Eugene Valerio.
The seasoned campaigner continues to amaze with his performances and has recently returned from a show in Aberdeen. There he knocked out local hero Thomas McCarthy 36 seconds into round one.
Fight fans can see an afternoon of Muay Thai and K1 kickboxing action at Saltney Tavern on Sunday as DNA Promotions bring their Seasons Beatings show to the venue.
Top billing goes to John Henry McNamara, who faces Ashley Goodwin.
Doors open at 2pm and standard tickets are £15 if purchased before the event or £20 on the door.
Ringside seats are £30.
The show will feature the cream of local fighting talent and is sponsored by Chester Xfit, County Roofing, LD Plastering, Chester Computer Centre and LS Tyres. For tickets contact John on 07591574261.
