Golf: New and old captains saluted by Padeswood & Buckley Golf Club

PADESWOOD & Buckley’s AGM doubled up with a ‘Hail and Farewell’ event to welcome in the club’s new captains and thank the retiring officers for their year’s service in office.

Kevin Grandfield, from Nannerch, and Chris Fogerty, from Mancot, were unveiled as the club’s captain and lady captain for 2013 respectively.

Their vice captains will be Ian Cameron and June Holland.

The club’s two new presidents, Gerald Williams and Mary Rowlands, began their three-year terms in office.

Both were captains of the club in 1992 and will remain in their presidential roles until 2016.

In his acceptance speech, new captain Grandfield thanked all the retiring officers for their commitment and dedication to the club and announced that he and new lady captain Fogerty had chosen locally-based children’s support group Daffodils as their nominated charity for the coming year.

Retiring captains Nigel Metcalfe and Anne Tapp raised £5,000 for their chosen charity for 2012, the Butterflies After Stroke Club.

Padeswood & Buckley Golf Club has celebrated three hole-in-ones in a single month.

Peter Williams aced the 14th, Chris Jones the 10th and then Peter Jones the newly constructed, 220-yard long, par-three second.

It was the first hole-in-one on the new green but unfortunately for Peter, the competition was played off yellow, non-qualifying boxes.
