Boxing: Sam Pickering selected for elite Welsh squad

DEVA Police ABC fighter Sam Pickering has been invited to be part of the Welsh Amateur Boxing Association’s Elite Training Programme in 2013.

A Welsh boxing review has led to Pickering, who trains at the Saltney-based club, being selected to attend the first Elite Training Camp of 2013, from January 4-6.

It puts the light middleweight fighter – who won his most recent bout in a show at Chester Racecourse – in line to represent Wales at the World Championships and the European Championships next year, with the possibility of a 2014 Commonwealth Games spot also up for grabs.
