The Funky Doctors celebrate New Year’s Eve at Alexander’s in Chester

WHEN it’s New Year’s Eve, there are a few key ingredients that make for a memorable night: great food, good company and a brilliant party band.

The Funky Doctors were formed in spring 2006 by band leader and session drummer Liam Hardwick with one goal, of forming the funkiest and most professional funk and soul party band.

The Funky Doctors are made up from some of the UK’s finest session musicians, who have between them appeared at Live Earth, Glastonbury, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Leeds and Reading festivals and at the Cork and Montreaux Jazz festival.

The band comprises a funky horn section of trumpet and sax, combined with fantastic vocals.

On New Year’s Eve, the band will be six strong, fronted by talented and charismatic front man Alex Dee and with Liam Hardwick providing backing vocals and drums.

When he’s not playing in The Funky Doctors, Liam Hardwick runs Funky Entertainment, supplying bands and musicians for weddings, events and venues including the Echo Arena Liverpool.

Liam said: “We do more than just provide bands, we do the whole package with amazing lighting and sound, and this really adds to the experience.

“New Year’s Eve is going to be done slightly different to our other appearances at Alexander’s; there will be the usual fantastic lights and sound but we are going to focus on making it like a big party.

“The set will feature a wide selection of dance floor fillers and party favourites like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Commitments and The Blues Brothers.”

The Funky Doctors will be at Alexander’s on Friday, December 31. Tickets are £19.50 in advance, and £22.50 on the night.Doors 8pm. Late bar. Ring 01244 340005 or visit the website www.alexanderslive.com.
