North Wales firm gap personnel hires staff training expert

INDUSTRIAL recruitment agency Gap Personnel has underlined its commitment to staff development by hiring a dedicated training director for the first time.

Phill White will be responsible for honing the skills of recruitment consultants and admin staff across the Wrexham-based firm’s regional and specialist divisions.

The varied role will see Phill delivering a wide variety of bespoke courses for Gap employees.

Courses will range from sessions on customer service and telephone techniques for trainee consultants to workshops on management skills for branch managers and regional directors.

Phill, 51, said: “Essentially my brief is to identify training needs across the group and carry out the necessary training to help us grow.

“Gap is a company that holds tremendous appeal for me. It shares the values that are important to me in business – excellence of service, integrity and putting the customer first.

“The company’s commitment to staff development is second to none, and from what I have seen already that commitment is really paying dividends.

“The business has lots of talented, dedicated and motivated people and seems like a fantastic place to work.”

Gap, the UK’s eighth largest industrial labour provider, boasts some of the best internal staff retention figures in the industry.

Every employee is given their own training development plan and enjoys a range of benefits including a company share option scheme after seven years’ service.

The privately-owned agency recently received an Investors in People gold award, and also retained its status as one of the best UK companies to work for – an accolade it has achieved every year since 2008.

Managing director Gary Dewhurst said: “Since our inception in 1997, staff development has been one of Gap’s defining principles.

“Gap believes passionately in rewarding hard work and innovation. Indeed, some of our most senior executives started out as trainees and have climbed the ranks.”

He added: “We decided the time was right to centralise our training function under the direction of one individual – and Phill fits the bill perfectly.”

Phill joins Gap from PPT Solutions in Warrington, where he spent a decade as operations director with direct responsibility for recruitment, HR, training and health and safety.
