FLINTSHIRE county safety manager Kevin Roberts reiterated the importance of homes and businesses having working smoke alarms after Friday’s blaze.
He said they can be the difference between life and death, and homeowners who haven’t got one should contact North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
“I cannot over-emphasise the importance of having a working smoke alarm, which could have alerted the residents and allowed them to escape before the fire had developed,” he said.
“The five residents in the property were extremely lucky to have escaped unharmed, as they had no working smoke alarms fitted to give them an early warning of the fire.
“North Wales Fire and Rescue Service offers free home fire safety checks, where a member of the service will come to your home, give fire safety advice, help you to formulate a fire escape plan and, if necessary, fit new smoke alarms on every floor of your home.”
