POLICE negotiators were sent out to Queensferry after a man said to be armed with a machete climbed up onto the roof of shops and started hurling objects at onlookers.

North Wales Police officers  attempted to talk the 19-year-old down from the roof of the row of shops on Station Road on Tuesday evening (February 22).

Bystanders told the Chronicle the man had been chucking bits of brick and slate tiles at members of the public, police cars and police officers – some of whom are carrying ‘riot shields’.

One eyewitness said: “It’s absolute mayhem, there are loads of people out trying to see what’s going on.

“He was hurling bricks and bits of tiles off the roof and has destroyed a police car.”

Another bystander said: “He’s been on the roof of KFC, Subway, Domino’s and Queensferry Sports – he’s been hopping around like Spiderman.”

Station Road is closed both ways and motorists have reported tailbacks along Welsh Road in Garden City heading toward Chester.

Police were called at just after 4.30pm after reports of a man on the roof.

The area was cordoned off by police and Station Road was closed to traffic while negotiations continued.

The teenager came down from the roof at about 9.15pm - almost five hours later.
