Connah’s Quay community event raises £14,000 for Help for Heroes

A COMMUNITY has been praised for its generous donations to Forces charity Help For Heroes.

More than £14,000 was raised at a charity dinner hosted by Falklands veteran Simon Weston OBE in Connah’s Quay Civic Hall last month.

And community leaders have thanked everyone who supported the event.

Cllr Pam Attridge, chairwoman of Connah’s Quay Town Council, said: “All the people involved must be congratulated for helping raise such a large amount of money.

“It is a true reflection of the support shown by people from Connah’s Quay and beyond towards this very worthy cause.”

The evening was organised by Connah’s Quay businessman Alan Sullivan and Tom Manion, chief executive of Irwell Valley Housing Association in Manchester.

Cllr Bernie Attridge praised Mr Sullivan for planning the event.

He said: “It was a fantastic night and everyone was very generous.”

A total of £14,154 was raised for the charity.

Coronation Street star Beverley Callard – who played Liz McDonald – attended the evening and guests were treated to a DJ set from Alyn and Deeside AM Carl Sargeant, as well as performances from bands and comedians.
