Cricket: Pontblyddyn 2nds take Division Two title

PONTBLYDDYN 2nds secured the North Wales League Division Two title and promotion to Division One with a 159-run home victory over Corwen.

Batting first, Pont were heading for a modest total before Jack Mason and Jonathan Mountford arrived at the crease to spur them on.

Mason scored 82 to put Pont in the driving seat, assisted by 47 from Mountford as the home side posted 228-7.

Corwen’s response ended with opener Nathan Aldridge’s 52 as Corwen were toppled for 69, giving Pont an unassailable lead at the top.

MYNYDD ISA’S hopes of survival in the division were already dashed when Flintshire rivals CARMEL AND DISTRICT rolled into town.

The visitors needed a victory to maintain their promotion push so there was no quarter given as they defeated Isa by nine wickets.

First up with the bat, Isa gave it a good shot, John Gorman making 28 as they were bowled out for 90 (Jonathan Hunter and Ollie Saynor 3-15).

Having successfully defended 77 last week against Buckley, Isa were not short of belief that they could win.

But Richard Jones made 41no and Nikola Davidovic 40no to help Carmel secure a vital win.
