Football: Mold Alex maintain lead over resurgent Rhydymwyn in Welsh National League

PREMIER Division leaders Mold Alex maintained their position with a dominant 4-1 victory on the road at Chirk AAA.

Dave Abrahams had to deal with a mini injury crisis but was still able to field a side capable of an important win, Luke Tyson, Simon Hulse, Dean Hughes and Adam Renshaw all scoring.

The result kept distance between the Alex and Rhydymwyn, who beat fellow title rivals Hawarden Rangers 1-0.

Simon Holloway found the net for Rhyd after 60 minutes.

Saltney Town earned their 14th win of the season against hosts Acrefair as their Division One promotion campaign rolled on with a 4-1 win.

Liam Ashbrook was presented with a simple tap-in for the Bordermen’s first goal and they doubled their lead on 14 minutes with a cool finish from Jake Gibbons.

Acrefair pulled one back before the interval but with the first attack of the second half Gibbons added a third goal for Saltney.

Marc Gunther then added his strike to put the result beyond doubt.

Argoed dropped two points in the promotion race as they were held to a 1-1 draw by New Brighton, Andy Morris cancelling out the effort of Argoed goalscorer Mike Bright.

Hawkesbury Villa suffered a 4-1 defeat against Castell Alun (Dave Bullough 2, Tom Crewe, Craig Salisbury).
