Ice hockey: Flintshire Raptors beat the freeze to overcome Manchester Phoenix

AS snow and ice blighted the fixture calendar for most sports, Flintshire Raptors found themselves perfectly able to cope as they travelled to face Manchester Phoenix.

The under 10s ice hockey team were at home in the sub-zero conditions as they travelled up the M56 to finish the first half of their season on Saturday.

The freezing weather could stop the Raptors from notching up another win despite the Phoenix putting up a strong resistance.

The first period saw the Raptors trail 5-3 but in the second the Flintshire side came out fighting, scoring four goals in as many minutes.

As a result they went into the break 8-7 up before, in the third period, scoring another three goals past their hosts as it ended 11-9 to the Raptors.

Goalscorers for the Raptors were James Shaw (4), Louis Morgan (3), Michael Speare (2), Kieran Clarkson and Eric Tuft.

The Flintshire Raptors’ and Flintshire Flyers’ next home games are on Saturday, January 8 at 4.15pm. Spectators are welcome.
