FLINT Town United’s under 9s took centre stage in one of the most dramatic Community Shield games of recent times at Wembley Stadium.
On Sunday Manchester United came from 2-0 down to defeat Manchester City 3-2 in the traditional English top-flight opening match and the junior Silkmen helped get it all started.
Thanks to a nomination from McDonald’s franchisee and Flint U9s sponsor Stewart Williams the youngsters had the run of the press area and the tunnel and led a team parade around the Wembley turf before kick-off and got to watch the game between the Premiership giants.
Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko scored for City, only for Chris Smalling and a Nani brace to give United the first silverware of the campaign.
