Football: Queensferry’s Ricky Wilson earns Welsh Development Squad call-up

JOHN Summers’ High School pupil Ricky Wilson is celebrating after earning a call-up to the Welsh under 15s development squad.

The Year 10 footballer, from Chester Road in Queensferry, has starred for Hawarden Rangers, the Airbus UK Academy and his school this season and has caught the eye of scouts who recommended he join the training group.

He trains with the cream of North Wales talent at the home of The New Saints in Oswestry and if he impresses he could be selected for Wales’ Victory Shield squad.

The Victory Shield pits schoolboys from Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland into a home nations tournament which is televised by Sky Sports.

Wing-back Wilson appeared for Flintshire Schoolboys U14s last season and is also in the county U15s squad for the current campaign.

The Welsh selection is a step up in class but Wilson has been involved for a few weeks and seems to have settled well into the youth international set-up.

Teacher Clare Jarvis said: “The whole school is really proud of Ricky. This is an outstanding achievement.”
