Youth football: Deeside Soccer School launches new football team

A NEW football club has grown out of a soccer school on Deeside – and is now recruiting players.

Deeside Soccer Schools have been coaching young players since early in 2010 at evenings, weekends and during the school holidays and now head coach Clive Davies is launching a team.

Deeside FC will hold training sessions during half-term and all are welcome, from five-year-olds to adults.

Sandycroft Football Development Centre on Phoenix Street will host the first training session for the club before they move to Sealand Manor playing fields on Wednesday and the Welsh Road pitches in Garden City on Thursday.

All training sessions will run from 10am to 3pm and will be split into three groups, 5-15 years, 16-18 years and over 18s.

Davies, who holds an FA of Wales B licence to coach, said he was excited to be able to take this next step.

“Deeside FC has grown out of the soccer school,” he said. “We have a good mix of young players who are all keen to learn, our facilities are excellent and everything is in place to move forward as a club.”

As it is mid-season, Deeside FC will play friendly matches with clubs who are without fixtures at weekends.

They have already approached clubs in the North East Wales League and Clwyd East League and clubs in Chester and the Wirral.

But at the moment Davies is keen to get players to come down and get involved to boost the club’s squad.

“We welcome all players, whatever their ability,” he said. “If they are keen to improve and learn about the game then they are welcome.

“Enjoying playing is paramount to young players and we try to make sure that they do.”

Outside of the holidays the team trains at Hawarden High School on Monday evenings, at Deeside Leisure Centre’s artificial pitches on Wednesdays and on Saturdays at Sandycroft (10am-noon), Sealand Manor (1pm-2pm) and Garden City (2.15pm-3.15pm) and it’s not just players who are welcome.

“The club is also happy for people who want to develop their coaching to come along and work with us,” said Davies.

“We can help them gain their licences and benefit from having more qualified coaches at the club.”
