Football: Halkyn United under 14s tested by Canadians from home of Ice Road Truckers

HALKYN United under 14s hosted an unusual pre-season opponent as an U16s side from the home of Channel Five’s Ice Road Truckers came to town.

Canadian team Yellowknife City FC arrived in Halkyn having played against Ajax U16s in Holland earlier in the week and they were no slouches.

The game started off at a very quick pace as Halkyn struggled to adapt to the speed and size of their visitors.

United were 2-0 down before they got to grips with the game but when they did they kept the Canadian goalkeeper busy.

But as half time approached Yellowknife managed to grab themselves a third goal.

After the break Halkyn came out strong and retained the ball well to make the tourists work hard for possession.

Within 10 minutes of the restart Halkyn had pulled a goal back and 15 minutes later it was 3-2 as the home side worked their way back into the game.

In the closing minutes Halkyn pressed hard for an equaliser but time was not on their side.

“The game was played in the right spirits from both teams with inspiring junior sporting conduct shown,” said coach Rob Jones.
