DEESIDE Degrees put relegation behind them as they kicked off their North East Wales Netball League Division Two campaign with a 40-31 win over Mold Dragons.
Despite the impressive efforts of goalkeeper Natalie Griffith, she could not keep Deeside at bay all game and with Ceri Roberts at goal defence for Deeside in equally good form, Mold slipped to an opening-day defeat.
Fellow relegated side Mold Ravens edged a 45-41 victory over Wrexham Jets. Bethan Barker spearheaded the win, the goal attack proving a deadeye shot while Wrexham’s Tash Turner at goal shooter couldn’t quite keep pace at the end.
In Division Three, the Holywell derby went the way of Holywell Hotshots as the younger side claimed a narrow triumph over Holywell Ladies 38-35.
Flint Foxes were held to a 30-30 draw by Bank of America.
Having come down to Division Three at the end of last season, Flint almost grabbed a win but the Bankers refused credit as they ensured a split of three points each.
In Division One, Wrexham Ladies defeated Wrexham Harlequins 63-33.
Despite battling hard, the Harlequins could not contain the Ladies.
Hafod Johnstown also earned a big win over Colwyn Sports.
It is the third time in a row over two seasons that Hafod have beaten Colwyn, who look likely to struggle.
