Swimming: Buckley’s Ryan Davidson scores six golds at Holywell Valentine’s meet

VALENTINE’S Day came early for Ryan Davidson as he stormed to victory in six separate events at the Holywell Valentine’s Meet.

At the weekend Holywell played host to the junior swimming competition and Buckley Swimming Club’s Davidson, 13, threw himself into six sprint swims – the 50 metre and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

He finished with six gold medals and also won the title of Top 13s Boy and set a new meeting record in the 50m breaststroke, powering to the end in 37.94sec.

Meeting records were Buckley’s staple at Holywell, as three other standards were rewritten.

Chelsea Furlong set a new record in the 14s girls 50m backstroke, winning in 35.92sec.

Georgia Lee is the new 13s girls 50m breaststroke record-holder with 37.58sec and Elliot Jones now holds the 14s boys 50m backstroke record of 29.10sec.

All Buckley’s record-breakers at Holywell are part of the performance section of Buckley Swimming Club and train five evenings and two mornings a week before school.

Buckley Swimming Club is holding a fundraising event on Sunday, February 19, where every one of its swimmers will take part in a sponsored mile swim.

Even youngsters in the Water Dragons section, some as young as eight-years-old, will swim an individual mile.

The club is raising funds to pay for the ongoing training of coaches and new computer software callTeam Manager software which will help coaches with team selection and gala entries.
