Badminton: Deganwy Shuttle proves a real test for Flintshire youngsters

LILI Thomas was forced to dig deep against tough Cheshire opposition at the Deganwy Junior Shuttle badminton competition.

In the under 11 girls singles the Mold player was taken to three games by Lauren Evans (Cheshire) but played well to triumph 21-14, 6-15,15-12.

In the U13s event Liam Cooper of Connah’s Quay played well but lost in the quarter final of the singles before teaming with Cheshire’s Harvey Polson-Davies to finish third in the doubles.

In the U15 boys section Martyn Smith-Aldous of Flint played with great energy and composure to emerge triumphant, beating runner-up Moodalbyle 21-11.

In the girls singles Reya Patil (Connah’s Quay) lost 21-9 in the semis to Deganwy’s Tionne Regan.

North East Wales were not disgraced by their 17-3 defeat in the Badminton England Shires U15 County Competition against a very strong Lancashire team.

Four matches went to three games but NEW could only turn one of those into a victory.

It was a family affair as brothers Scott and Andrew Oates won their doubles match 21-17, 21-19 to prevent a whitewash.
