Entertainment: Full round-up of Flintshire fireworks displays

SAFE firework displays costing almost £6,000 will be held across the county tonight (Thursday).

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is supporting events in Deeside, Buckley, Mold and Flint.

The Flint event, starting at 6pm with the judging of the best Guy Fawkes, is run by volunteers from Flint Lifeboat Station.

Festivities will be held at Flint Castle and will include a funfair, amusements, stalls and a hog roast.

Alan Forrester, lifeboat operations manager, said: “We are delighted to have our firework display again this year, and even more so with the reintroduction of the bonfire.

“The event is one of our main fundraisers, and we are indebted to the many helpers who give up their time to ensure the evening’s success.

“However, we wouldn't have a display without the help of Flintshire County Council and the Environment Agency.”

The firework display will start at 7pm and family tickets cost £5.

The crew from Deeside Fire Station has organised an event at Deeside Leisure Centre, which starts at 7.15pm.

County safety manager for the fire service, Kevin Roberts, said: “We normally go round to residents’ houses to sell programmes for the event but this year, because we are part of the Community Safety Partnership trying to clamp down on cold callers, we decided it would be better to sell programmes on the gate.”

Mold Alex Football Club, Denbigh Road, are hosting a bonfire and fireworks display, starting at 6.30pm.

Admission is £2 for adults and £1 for children.

A display will also be held on Buckley Common at 6.30pm.

Mr Roberts said: “Just under £6,000 has been spent on fireworks for these events so will not only will they be safer than fireworks at home, they’ll be much better too.”
