Witness appeal after suspicious incidents in Deeside

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two incidents where children were approached by drivers last week.

At 4.15pm on Wednesday, September 28, North Wales Police received a report of a man in a silver vehicle stopping to talk to a young girl who was walking in Clwyd Street, Shotton.

A resident who saw the incident described the driver as having dark hair and wearing a dark coloured jumper.

He is believed to have made a comment and then driven off towards Shotton.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Jason Devonport said: “I want to reassure residents that inquiries into this incident are well underway.

“Officers have been in the vicinity conducting house-to-house inquiries and CCTV footage is also being studied as part of the investigation.”

He added: “I’m appealing to anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Clwyd Street at the time and seen the vehicle, may have information or witnessed the incident to contact detectives at Mold CID. Similarly, I’m appealing to the driver himself to come forward and make contact with officers.”

Detectives say they are not linking the report to a similar incident in Connah’s Quay on Monday, September 26.

Two girls were walking near the junction of Hillside and St Marks at about 6.25pm when a man driving a silver car signalled at them to approach him.

DI Devonport added: “The girls did the right thing and did not approach the car but made their way straight home. Our investigations into this incident are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact police.”

Anyone with information should call detectives at Mold CID 101 (if in Wales) or 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) or 0845 607 1002 (English language line).

Alternatively, individuals can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
