GCSE results: Argoed High School, Mynydd Isa

ARGOED High School’s best ever results puts them in the top 10 high schools in the whole of Wales.

The girls’ and boys’ results were outstanding with many pupils massively overachieving this year.

Headteacher Simeon Molloy said: “The changes we have made, such as a more innovative learning curriculum and free focussed holiday tuition classes for all during the Easter break and summer half-term, have had a big influence.

“However, the biggest effect on the results comes from the effort put in by teachers, pupils and parents alike. Ultimately, it is their hard work and determination that has earned these results.”

In total 84% of pupils received five A*-C grades, everyone received five A*-G grades and 78% scooped five A*-G grades including English and maths.

Pupils who received particularly exception results included: Jemima Mainwaring (10A* and two A grades), Lauren Hill (nine A* and five A grades), Cathryn Jarvis (seven A* and four A grades), Emma Dumbill six A* and six A grades), Olivia Petie four A* and six A grades), Daniel Ashley Cooper (seven A* and seven As), Jacob Harding (four A* and three As), Jonathan Jones four A*s and two As) and Thomas Bonney (three A*s and five As).
