Astronomy picture of the week - Soul Nebula

soul nebula main

THIS narrowband picture of the Soul Nebula catalogue no IC1848 located in Cassiopeia at an estimated distance of 6,500 light years has captured the Nebula in all its glory.

The hot central stars have eroded the nebula, stellar radiation blowing material outwards.

The inward facing pillars of gas give the best evidence to the triggered star formation theory
