A SALTNEY Scout group is celebrating after plans to build a new headquarters were finally given the go-ahead.
Saltney Town Council had submitted the bid for a new hut to be built on behalf of the Saltney Ferry Scouts and Guides group.
The proposal came after the group’s old headquarters was ravaged by fire in June last year.
Widespread community support came for a new base close to the old site on Bradshaw Avenue.
And now Flintshire County Council has given the latest version of the plans the green light.
Rob Benyon, leader of the Scout group, said he was now looking to obtain grants to help fund the new home for the popular troop.
He said: “Before the plans had been finalised and approved we couldn’t go after the grant funding, but now it has been passed we can push it along.
“It’s brilliant news we can go ahead and we can press ahead.
“We have had a lot of help from, and would like to thank, Saltney Town Council, whose support along the road has been superb, and Flintshire County Council has offered advice when needed.
“There is still a strong support and we have managed to get through what has been a difficult six months but the group is still here and new people are still wanting to join us – in a way, all this has added more interest in the group and the work we do.”
