Cricket: Hawarden Park climb away from relegation zone

HAWARDEN Park put more distance between themselves and the relegation mire with a 78-run victory over Mochdre.

Park batted first and despite the early departure of Michael Parton they recovered well to post a strong 212-9.

Tom Ducker rediscovered his touch to contribute a classy 33 featuring five boundaries and one six and Craig Wilson took things further, scoring 59, a score which saw him find the rope nine times.

Ian Martin added 38 and Park were riding high going into the interval.

Mochdre began staunchly once the tea-time pleasantries were out of the way.

The top three all logged respectable scores and it looked as though Park may have a battle on their hands to defend their total.

But up stepped Craig Wilson to quell the visitors’ rebellion once and for all.

He steamed in and got Mochdre bent all out of shape as he bagged 5-23 and restored Park’s comfortable advantage.

Mochdre never recovered. Stuart Jones tried to launch an eleventh-hour tail wag to hold on for a draw but it was never going to happen and Campbell Marr made him one of his 2-20.

James Hurlin also weighed in with 3-59 as Park took another big step toward survival in the Premier Division.
